Meet our Curious NYC Therapist Pilar Lumpkin

When did you first think about becoming a therapist?
I first seriously thought about becoming a therapist in 2007. I was taking a class at a local community college, and once completing the course, I was asked to return the following year as a mentor.
The feedback received was I was a great listener with a supportive and calming demeanor and should consider becoming a therapist. I’ve always been that person for family and friends and thought maybe this is what I’m supposed to be doing. So I started Graduate school shortly after.
What got you first excited about psychology and social work?
Wanting to help people is a skill I innately possess. As an undergraduate, I was a business major because I thought it would be a more financially stable career. However, I was struggling with the classes, I really didn’t like them.
